Police Officer David Fahey

Police Officer David Fahey was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on I-90, near Warren Road, while assisting at the scene of a fatal accident at approximately 6:00 am.

He was setting out flares to divert traffic off of the highway when he was struck by an oncoming car. The vehicle fled after striking him. The driver was arrested later in the day.Officer Fahey had served with the Cleveland Police Department for 2-1/2 years.  Read Full Story

Detective Jerry Walker

Detective Jerry Walker was shot and killed after responding to a call involving an armed subject on the 1400 block of Turtle Cove Drive.

Responding officers encountered the man standing behind a fence. As they ordered him to drop his weapon the man ran into a home and then started shooting out of the home's windows.

Detective Walker was struck in the neck by one of the rounds. He was flown to Medical City Denton where he succumbed to his wounds.

The subject remained barricaded inside the home for several hours. The man was found dead inside the home approximately six hours of the initial shooting.  Read Full Story

Judge declares mistrial in Michael Slager trial

 

The judge in the murder trial of former North Charleston, South Carolina, police officer Michael Slager on Monday declared a mistrial after jurors were unable to reach a verdict after four days of deliberations.

 

Slager, who is white, shot and killed Walter Scott, an unarmed black man, after a 2015 traffic stop. The shooting was captured on a bystander's cell phone video, which showed Scott running away as Slager shot him multiple times in the back.  Read Full Story

Chattanooga Mom Says She Complained About Driver in Deadly Crash

 

A grieving Chattanooga mother said Tuesday that she repeatedly complained about her children's school bus driver in the months before he was involved in an accident Monday that killed five young students, including one of her daughters.

The driver, identified by authorities as 24-year-old Johnthony Walker, taunted students from Woodmore Elementary School by "slamming on brakes on purpose, making all the kids hit their heads," Jasmine Mateen told local NBC affiliate WRCB.   Read Full Story

Deputy Sheriff  Eric Oliver

Deputy Sheriff Eric Oliver was struck and killed by a vehicle while involved in a foot pursuit of a subject near the intersection of County Road 200 and Chester Road at approximately 7:30 am.

He and another deputy had responded to backup several United States Border Patrol agents who were interviewing several subjects at a gas station. One of the subjects being questioned fled on foot with Deputy Oliver and the second deputy in pursuit. Extreme carjacker gets 41 years

At only 17, Brandon Lord Newson had seemingly perfected his criminal craft.  Over five days in 2015, he and accomplices carjacked at least seven people around Milwaukee, firing shots in most instances, and got away with the crimes until he went outside his geographic comfort zone.

While fleeing police within minutes of his last carjacking in Waukegan, Ill., he ran into some woods where he got lost and stuck in a muddy swamp. He called 911 for help. He told the dispatcher he was scared.  Read Full Story

Police, Teens Come Together for Feast and Football

 

Plunging temperatures and brisk winds didn't dampen the festive

atmosphere or attendance. Nearly 200 people came out to enjoy food, sports, and music. Fifty families received turkeys and Thanksgiving meal gift cards from the Hunger Task Force. One Police Officer Killed, 2 Shot in 3 Incidents Across USA

San Antonio- A Texas detective was shot and killed while writing a traffic ticket outside of police headquarters late Sunday morning.  Later Sunday, two other officers were wounded in incidents in Florida and Missouri.

 

San Antonio Police Chief William Mcmanus identified the slain officer as 20- year veteran Detective Benjamin Marconi, 50.  He said the suspect has not yet been apprehended, and a motive is not known.  Read Full Story

Officer Jude William Lewis

Police Officer Jude Lewis, 46, succumbed to injuries on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 that he sustained during a single car crash on June 1, 201, as he was responding to back up another officer who was involved ina foot pursuit.

 

Officer Lewis’ patrol car left the roadway and struck a tree near the intersection on Washington Avenue and Pine Street and because of the impact, he suffered traumatic brain injury.  Officer Lewis remained in a coma for the first six months following the accident and never fully recovered.  Read Full Story

Deputy U.S. Marshal Killed Serving Warrant in Georgia

LUDOWICI, Ga. -- Federal authorities say a deputy U.S. marshal has been fatally shot while trying to serve an arrest warrant in southeast Georgia.

A news release from the U.S. Marshals Service says the suspect was killed by officers who returned fire. The release says the deputy marshal, 53-year-old Patrick Carothers, was shot twice while trying to serve a warrant at a mobile home in rural Long County, about 55 miles southeast of Savannah.  Read Full Story

Deputy Justin White Dies from Injuries Sustained in On-duty Accident

 

COVINGTON — Newton County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin White, critically injured in an accident on Oct. 30 while responding to an emergency, passed away at 8:54 a.m. Tuesday at Atlanta Medical Center, according to Sheriff’s Capt. Sammy Banks.

Deputy White was responding to a medical emergency call at the time of the accident. According to a news release from the Georgia State Patrol, they were called to assist about 2:34 a.m. that Sunday.  Read Full Story

Border Patrol Agent Dies of Heart Attack on Bike Patrol

Border Patrol Agent David Gomez, 44, suffered a fatal heart attack Tuesday while on bike patrol in El Paso, TX, reports odmp.org.

He and several other agents were riding on McKelligan Canyon Road when Agent Gomez suffered the heart attack and fell from his bike. The other agents immediately began CPR and continued lifesaving efforts until medics arrived. He was transported to a local hospital where he was kept on life support until passing away the following day.  Read Full Story

Schwenksville, Pa. - The grieving widow of a Pennsylvania corrections officer fears she may never know what happened to her husband, gravely injured inside the walls of one of the state's toughest prisons.

Real Estate Heir Robert Durst Faces Murder Charge in California

 

LOS ANGELES — New York real estate heir Robert Durst, who became a nationally known name with last year's HBO documentary "The Jinx," made his long-awaited arrival in California to face charges of killing a friend 16 years ago, authorities said.

 

Durst was being held in a Los Angeles County jail Friday and is scheduled to be arraigned in the case on Monday afternoon, district attorney's spokeswoman Jane Robison said.  Read Full Story

Body Found on Property Where Woman Held Chained ID'd as Missing Boyfriend

 

The body found in a shallow grave on property where Kala Brown was found chained alive has been identified as Brown's missing boyfriend, a South Carolina sheriff said Saturday.

 

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright and county Coroner Rusty Clevenger announced that the body found Friday was Charlie Carver. Clevenger said the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.   Brown, 30, was found chained inside a metal container on property belonging to Todd Kohlhepp, 45, who has been charged with kidnapping and faces a possible murder charge.   Read Full Story

 

Ohio Man Arrested at Columbus Airport on Way to Libya to Join ISIS, FBI Says

An Ohio man was arrested at the Columbus airport Monday as he was boarding a flight on his way to join ISIS, federal prosecutors said.

 

The man, Aaron Travis Daniels, 20, of Columbus — also known as Harun Muhammad and Abu Yusuf — admitted having sent money to an intermediary for ISIS recruiter Abu Issa al-Amriki, the FBI said in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Columbus. Father of NFL Player Gunned Down at Oklahoma City Airport

 

Police shut down Oklahoma's busiest airport for hours Tuesday after the father of Kansas City Chiefs player James Winchester was shot to death.

 

The suspected gunman was found dead at Will Rogers World Airport from a gunshot wound that may have been self-inflicted, Oklahoma City police Capt. Paco Balderrama said. 

The man, who wasn't identified, was found in a truck on the second level of the parking garage, Balderrama said.  Read Full Story

Dassey Release Ordered in “Making a Murderer” Case

 

Milwaukee- The federal judge who overturned the conviction of Brendan Dassey in the case made famous by Making A Murderer ordered Monday that Dassey be freed from prison, under supervision, pending further court developments.

 

U.S. District Judge William Duffin issued the order.

 

Dassey 27, has been in prison since being sentenced in 2007 to life in the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach a 25-year-old photographer from St. John Wis.  Dassey’s uncle, Steven Avery, also is serving a life sentence in the Manitowoc County murder.  Read Full Story

 Man Convicted Of Murdering Girlfriend After Singing ‘I Used To Love Her, But I Had To Kill Her’

 

Santa Ana -  A man who drunkenly sang along with a menacing Guns N’ Roses song before gunning down his girlfriend was convicted Thursday of her 2012 murder.

 

Thomas Michael Wilhelm, 52, of Costa Mesa, was found guilty of a felony count of first-degree murder and a sentencing enhancement for the personal discharge of a firearm causing death, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.  

 

Wilhelm, who is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 3, 2017, faces a maximum sentence of 50 years to life in state prison.  Read Full Story

Stanislaus County Sheriff's Deputy is Shot and Killed, Suspect is in Custody

A Stanislaus County sheriff's deputy was shot and killed Sunday in “an execution” carried out by a wanted man who was caught hours later after he carjacked one motorist, robbed a liquor store and tried to snatch a purse from a woman in Tulare County, authorities said.

Deputy Dennis Wallace, a 20-year department veteran, was shot twice in the head shortly after coming across a stolen van in Fox Grove Park, just outside the city of Hughson, Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson told reporters at a news conference.  Read Full Story

Man Found Dead by Dog Walker in West Dallas was Beaten by Debit Card Thief, Police Say

 

A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of capital murder Friday, a week after police say he followed a man away from a gas station, stole his debit card and beat him to death.  Dallas police say Adriean Montrell Burns confessed to killing 64-year-old Bolivar Salazar, who was found dead on a West Dallas sidewalk by a man walking his dog on the morning of Nov. 5.

 

Police believe Salazar used his debit card the night before to buy beer from a Shell gas station in the 3900 block of Hampton Road, near the Trinity River. Video surveillance then showed him being followed by a black man wearing an orange hat.  Read Full story

 

Cocaine-fueled California Gunman Attempted to Ambush Cops in Deadly Rampage

AZUSA, Calif. — A cocaine-fueled "gun fanatic" armed himself with an assault rifle and launched a rampage Tuesday in his Azusa neighborhood, killing one man and critically wounding two women before he attempted to ambush responding police officers.  During a furious gun battle in the quiet San Gabriel Valley neighborhood, police shot him dead, and his body was found in a home's entryway.

The gunfire forced authorities to secure the neighborhood and shut down nearby polling places — sending voters scrambling to find alternate locations as police confronted the assailant.  The motive for the shooting remained under investigation, but Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. John Corina said the 45-year-old assailant was on a cocaine binge that had prompted his wife and two children to leave the family's home Monday evening.  Read Full STory

Father of slain Dallas officer sues Black Lives Matter

DALLAS — The father of one of five officers slain July 7 in downtown Dallas is suing Black Lives Matter for the death of his son. 

Enrique Zamarripa, father of Dallas police Officer Patrick Zamarripa, on Monday filed a 43-page lawsuit in the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Texas.  In the suit, he blames the national organization and 13 other defendants, including the Nation of Islam, Reverend Al Sharpton, the New Black Panthers Party and Black Lives Matter activist DeRay McKesson in the deadly ambush.  Read Full Story

Canonsburg Police Officer Killed in 'ambush;' Suspect, Pregnant Wife Found Dead

 

A man with a history of domestic abuse killed one police officer and injured another Thursday before he and his wife were found dead after a reported fight at their apartment, authorities said.

Show Low Police Officer Fatally Shot; Suspect Dead

 

SHOW LOW, Ariz.- A Show Low police officer has died after being shot by a suspect while responding to a disturbance call.

The Show Low Police Department says 50-year-old Darrin Reed, a police officer with the the Show Low Police Department since 2006, was shot while responding to the disturbance call at 12:03 p.m. on Tuesday.

 

Investigators say the suspect, identified as Daniel Erickson, pulled out a gun, shot Officer Reed and fled the scene. Officer Reed was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died.  Read Full Story

Second Georgia deputy shot responding to 911 call dies

 

A male suspect started shooting at the deputies Sunday when they responded to a call that he was using a rifle to threaten two young men visiting his neighbors just outside the city of Byron, about 16 miles southwest of Macon, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent J.T. Ricketson said. The suspect, Ralph Stanley Elrod, was shot in the abdomen during the shootout.

Peach County coroner Kerry Rooks said 41-year-old Patrick Sondron was killed. Deputy Daryl Smallwood was injured, and Rooks announced Monday the 39-year-old Smallwood died at a Macon medical center.  Read Full Story

Peach County Sergeant Dead, Deputy in Critical Condition After Shooting

 

Two Peach County, Georgia, Sheriff deputies were shot Sunday including one fatally after they responded to a dispute between neighbors, authorities told CNN.

Peach County Coroner Kerry Rooks identified Peach County Sheriff Deputy Patrick Sondron, 41, as the officer who died of a gunshot wound.

Authorities declined to release the second officer's name and their condition is not currently known.

West Valley City Police Officer Killed, Three in Custody

 

West Valley City • Three dozen police officers stood at attention and saluted as the flag-draped remains of Officer Cody Brotherson were loaded into a hearse Sunday morning, about six hours after he was hit and killed by three suspects in a stolen car.

Brotherson, 25, is the first West Valley City officer killed in the line of duty since the city was formed in 1980, and the second in Utah this year. He has been on the police force for three years and leaves behind a fiancée, two brothers and his parents.

"A West Valley born and bred individual and our hearts are heavy with his loss," Police Chief Lee Russo told reporters at a news conference.  Read Full Story

NYPD Sergeant Shot Dead, Second Wounded in Bronx Gunfight with Heavily Armed Suspect

 

An armed ex-con fatally shot an NYPD sergeant from 2 feet away and wounded a second officer as the cops approached his car in the Bronx Friday.  The gunman was killed in a barrage of police bullets, leaving his blood-stained torso hanging from the open door of the vehicle.

Sgt.  Paul Tuozzolo, 41, was fatally struck in the head and chest during the violent exchange.

The second cop – Sgt. Emmanuel Kwo, 30 – was hit in the right leg and is expected to survive following the 3 p.m. shooting in Van Nest.  Read Full Story

Jury selection postponed in Dylann Roof trial

 

CHARLESTON, S.C- A federal judge Monday postponed the first day of jury selection in the trial of a South Carolina man accused of killing nine black people at a black church last year.  U.S. District Court Judge Richard Gergel said he needed to privately hear a motion filed by Dylann Roof’s attorneys earlier that morning.

The move came moments after Roof, wearing a gray and white stripped Charleston County Detention Center uniform and without handcuffs, entered the courtroom.  He is accused of killing the black parishioners during a Wednesday night Bible study at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston in June 2016.  Read Full Story

Iowa Police Arrest Suspect in ‘Ambush’ Killings of 2 Officers

 

DES MOINES — They were each on overnight patrols early Wednesday, a rookie police officer and a veteran a few miles apart in the Des Moines area, when officials say they had the lethal misfortune to cross paths with an armed, disturbed man whose life was unraveling. Each officer was gunned down in the driver’s seat of his patrol car, without so much as a chance to unholster his weapon.

Investigators quickly identified a suspect in the slayings, who then surrendered — a local man described as a troubled loner who was familiar to the police in his suburban town, Urbandale. Miami Police Motorcycle Officer Killed in Crash at Southwest Miami-Dade Intersection

Miami, FL- A police officer was killed in a crash Tuesday afternoon in southwest Miami-Dade County.

Deputy Fatally Shot in Western Wisconsin, Suspect Arrested

RUSK COUNTY, Wis. (KMSP) - A Wisconsin sheriff’s deputy was fatally shot Saturday night near Ladysmith, Wisconsin while checking on suspicious vehicle. The suspect was located and arrested Sunday morning.

Rusk County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Dan Glaze, 33, was checking on a suspicious vehicle south of Ladysmith on Broken Arrow Road east of Highway 27 around 10:55 p.m. on Saturday night. Deputy Glaze radioed in that he had located the vehicle in a field, but dispatch lost contact with him. Funeral Scheduled for Detroit Officer Killed in Hit-and-Run

Detroit - Officials have released funeral information for Myron Jarrett, a Detroit police officer who was killed in a hit-and-run crash last week.

Jarrett's funeral will be at Second Ebenezer Church at noon Monday. The visitation will be at Woodlawn Cemetery at Woodward and State Fair from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday and from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Fairbanks Officer Who Was Shot Dies After Eye Surgery Complications

 

Fairbanks Police Sgt.  Allen Brandt, who was shot six times in the line of duty of Oct. 16, died Friday to complications from an eye surgery, according to the deputy chief of police.

Deputy Chief Brad Johnson announced Brandt’s death Friday evening at a news conference, which was broadcast live over Facebook.

“Fairbanks lost a hero today,” Johnson said.  “I’m sorry to have to let you know that earlier this afternoon Sgt. Allen Brandt lost the fight.”  Read Full Story

Mississippi Mom, Daughters Killed on Halloween Hayride

 

Chunky, Miss. – U.S. 80 was littered Tuesday with the spoils of a night that was supposed to be fun after two children and their mother died on a Halloween hayride.

A pair of shoes lay among pieces of candy on the other side of the road, apparently knocked from the feet of their owner when Kristina Shaver of Chunky, Miss; her two daughters, 8-year old Baylie and 2-year old Brooke; and seven other people were struck from behind as they rode on a small utility trailer.  A Ford F-150 pick up struck the trailer at about 7:45 p.m. CT  Monday, after dark, said Sgt. Andy West of the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Florida Man Buries Dead Mom to Collect her Benefits

 

A 56-year old Florida man could face up to 20 years in prison on charges of continuing to collect more than $35, 000 in benefits owed to his dead mother after burying her in the backyard of her home.

Brian Lee Adams of Green Cove Springs, which is southwest of Jacksonville, has pleaded guilty to theft of government property and aggravated identity theft, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Middle District of Florida reported.  Adams faces a maximum penalty of 12 years in federal prison, including mandatory two-year sentence for aggravated identity theft.  A sentencing date has not yet been set.  Read Full Story

 

Fired Doctor Anthony Garcia Found Guilty of Four Revenge Murders

Former doctor Anthony Joseph Garcia could face the death sentence after he was convicted Wednesday of killing four people with ties to a Nebraska medical school, including a young boy.

Garcia was convicted of first-degree murder in the 2008 stabbing deaths of 11-year-old Thomas Hunter — the son of Dr. William Hunter, a professor at the Creighton University School of Medicine — and the family's housekeeper, Shirley Sherman, 57. Jurors convicted him of the 2013 deaths of a Creighton pathologist, Dr. Roger Brumback, and his wife, Mary.

Sergeant Who Died After Compton Crash May Have Suffered Medical Emergency: Sheriff

 

A prayer vigil was held for a veteran Los Angeles County Sheriff`s Department sergeant on Monday night after he possibly suffered a medical condition and fatally crashed while responding to a pursuit in Compton.

Man Jumps Off N.J. Highway Overpass with Two Children, dies

A father jumped off of a New Jersey interstate overpass Monday night with his two children in his arms, killing himself and injuring the children, New Jersey State Police said.

The children were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital, New Jersey State Police said in a statement. They did not release the names or ages of the father or children.  Read Full Story

Police Officer Honored for Saving 3-Year-Old Boy

A Texas police was honored Tuesday for going out of his way to help save a 3-year-old boy’s life. Granbury police say Officer Chase Miller was scanning his radio’s EMS channel on Oct. 12 when he heard a dispatcher call for paramedics to respond to a call about a toddler who had stopped breathing.

Deputy Fatally Shot in North California is 4th On-Duty Officer in California to Be Killed in Two Weeks

Police Officer Aaron Christian succumbed to injuries sustained in a single vehicle crash on September 18th, 2016, at approximately 2:30 am.

He was traveling on south on the 3900 block of Route 7 when his patrol car left the roadway. The vehicle struck a tree, utility pole, and guardrail before overturning in an adjacent creek. Officer Christian was ejected from the vehicle and landed face down in the creek. Chicago Police say Officer Didn’t Shoot Suspect Beating Her, Fearing Scrutiny

 

A Chicago police officer who was "viciously" beaten by a man allegedly under the influence of drugs said she was afraid to use her weapon because of the public scrutiny she would have faced, according to Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson.

The officer, identified only as a 17-year veteran, was responding to a car crash in the suburban neighborhood of Austin Wednesday when the attack took place, KTLA sister station WGN in Chicago reported.

The officer tried to talk to one of the drivers involved in the crash, a 28-year-old man believed to be high on PCP, when he became violent and struggled with police, Johnson said.  Read Full Article

Southern Miss, Canada Team to Train Tomorrow's Police

Dressed in black hoods, only their eyes showing through their goggles, they held their orange plastic weapons in front of them and spoke to each other in French.  Beyond the door, an active shooter was terrorizing victims in a scenario they would soon play out as SWAT officers.

Suspect Pleads Not Guilty to Murder of Palm Springs Officers

INDIO, Calif. — A California gang member pleaded not guilty Thursday to murder charges in the killing of two Palm Springs police officers in what authorities called an ambush during a domestic dispute call.

John Hernandez Felix entered the pleas in a Riverside County courtroom, where he appeared with shackles on his legs and was ordered held without bail.

Authorities said Felix was intent on killing police on Saturday when he carried out the latest attack on officers across the nation that have included ambushes in Dallas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Read Full Article

In Memoriam: Sergeant Luis Meléndez-Maldonado

 

Sergeant Melendez-Maldonado, 51, was shot and killed while he was conducting a narcotics trafficking investigation. Agents arrived at the scene of an apartment complex where a search warrant raid was to be conducted. A suspected “lookout” opened fire with a high powered rifle, killing Sergeant Melendez-Maldonado instantly. As the shot rang out, two other subjects emerged from a nearby minivan and opened fire on the remaining officers.

All three of the three suspects were wounded by agents that returned fire. It was later determined that the three suspects were at the complex to murder their rival gang members.

Four Law Enforcement Officers Injured in Moulton Standoff

MOULTON — Four lawmen and a suspect were injured during a standoff in Moulton on Sunday afternoon.

Moulton police Chief Lyndon McWhorter said the suspect, Demetrae Griffin, of Moulton, was tased “multiple times” during the two-hour standoff.

Three of the four officers were taken to Lawrence County Medical Center, with one, Sgt. Ashley Bolden, requiring staples in his head, McWhorter said.  Click here for full story

He has just returned from military service in Iraq, struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder, has been drinking and suspects his wife has been having an affair. He grows even more upset when two Burlington police officers arrive.

Palm Springs Shooting: Two Police Officers Killed, One Wounded

(CNN)Two police officers were fatally shot and a third one injured while responding to a family disturbance call Saturday in Palm Springs, California.  The two victims were identified as Jose Gilbert Vega, a 35-year veteran of the department, and Lesley Zerebny, who is the mother of a 4-month-old.

A third officer was wounded and is being treated at a local hospital, Police Chief Bryan Reyes said.  The suspect has not been captured, Reyes said, but police have surrounded a house and "they're going to treat the house as if he's still in it."  Click here for full story

Clayton, MO- A St. Louis County police officer was fatally shot Thursday after responding to a report of a disturbance, and prosecutors charged an 18-year-old man in the killing.

Agent Killed in Motorcycle Accident

 

Agent Victor Rosada-Rosa was killed when his police motorcycle was struck by another vehicle on PR-52 in Cayey, Puerto Rico, following a pursuit and traffic stop of a vehicle at approximately 7:30 pm.

Officers had pursued the vehicle in connection to a larceny that had occurred and were able to get it stopped on PR-52. Agent Rosada-Rosa had stopped traffic to assist with the investigation and to allow a tow truck to remove the the vehicle. Gunman Captured After Fatally Shooting Los Angeles Sheriff's Sergeant in Face

A gunman who shot a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s sergeant in the face was captured by a SWAT team Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The man had opened fire on the sergeant called to the scene of a robbery in an apartment complex around 12:30 p.m. in Lancaster, Calif., roughly 70 miles north of L.A., officials with the sheriff’s department told the Lost Angeles Times.  Sgt. Deputy Succumbs to Injuries 10 Days After Being Struck by Vehicle

 

Deputy Sheriff John Isenhour was struck by a vehicle at the entrance to Tanglewood Park on Clemmons Road at approximately 10 a.m. while he was working at an annual cycling event.   He was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries ten days later.  Deputy Isenhour had served with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office for eleven months and was a 17-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He is survived by his wife and children.

Texas Jailer Dies While Attempting to Revive Inmate

 

Jailer Robert Ransom suffered a fatal heart attack inside the Marvin A. Smith Criminal Justice Facility while responding to a medical emergency involving an inmate.
As other deputies attempted to revive the inmate Jailer Ransom rushed to retrieve an AED. He collapsed moments later. Both he and the inmate were transported to Good Sheppard Medical Center where he passed away. The inmate that Jailer Ransom was assisting survived and was returned to the jail.  Jailer Ransom had served with the Gregg County Sheriff's Office for 11 years and had previously served with the Porter County, Indiana, Sheriff's Office for 25 years.

Six People Shot in Downtown Minneapolis

 

MINNEAPOLIS — Six people were shot in two separate shootings in downtown Minneapolis early Monday, according to police.

Man Admits To Murder That Kept Twin Jailed 13 Years

 

More than a decade after Kevin Dugar was convicted of firing a gun into a small group of people, killing one man and wounding another, his twin brother has made a shocking courtroom confession.

South Carolina school shooting: 2 children, 1 teacher wounded

Two children and a teacher were shot by a gunman at an elementary school in Townville, South Carolina, a spokesman for Anderson County Emergency Management told reporters Wednesday afternoon.

The students were sent to a local trauma center, Taylor Jones said.

Houston Strip Mall Shooting Leaves 9 Injured, Suspect Dead

 

 At least nine people were injured when a gunman opened fire at a Houston shopping center Monday morning, officials said. 

Police fatally shot the suspect, who started "firing actively" at officers once they located him, said Houston Police Chief Martha Montalvo.

Montalvo said the suspect lived in the neighborhood and was a lawyer who was having "issues with his law firm." Officials didn't further identify the gunman.  Six victims were taken to area hospitals, Montalvo said. By Monday afternoon, two remained. Three were in good condition, one was in fair condition, one was in serious condition and one was in critical condition, she said. Three more people were treated at the scene.  Click for full story

Ulster Deputy Dies During Dive-team Training

 

Sergeant Kerry Winters drowned while conducting a training dive with the Ulster County Sheriff's Office's In-Water Rescue Team in Ashokan Reservoir at approximately 12:30 pm.

He became separated from his two dive partners during the dive. He was found unresponsive a short time later and brought to the surface where other deputies performed CPR and utilized an AED. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.  Click here for full story

Detroit Police Sergeant Who Was Shot Dies from Medical Complications

A veteran Detroit police sergeant who was shot earlier this week has died, 7 Action News has learned.

Sgt. Kenneth Steil died from medical complications and a possible blood clot, we're told. He had been with the department for 20 years. Steil was supposed to be released from the hospital Saturday.  According to police, the sergeant was shot in the shoulder by 21-year-old Marquise Cromer last Monday with a sawed-off shotgun.  Steil was pursuing Cromer, who also allegedly shot his own father in the foot before taking off. Click here for full story

Alabama Prison Officer Stabbed by Inmate Dies from Injuries: Officials

 

A corrections officer stabbed by an inmate earlier this month has died, Alabama prison officials said — the latest attack at a state facility that has been grappling with violence.

Corrections officer Kenneth Bettis, a 44-year-old father of three and a veteran of the Alabama Army National Guard, died Friday, the Alabama Department of Corrections said. Ahmad Khan Rahami Is Arrested in Manhattan and New Jersey Bombings

The man believed to be responsible for the explosion in Manhattan on Saturday night and an earlier bombing in New Jersey, Ahmad Khan Rahami, was taken into custody on Monday after he was wounded in a gunfight with the police, law enforcement officials said.

The dramatic episode on a rain-soaked street in Linden, N.J., came after the police issued a cellphone alert to millions of residents in the area telling them to be on the lookout for Mr. Rahami, 28, who was described as “armed and dangerous.”  Click here for full story

NEW YORK — Authorities removed a second explosive device early Sunday — reportedly a pressure cooker — near the site of Saturday night's blast that injured more than two dozen people in the Chelsea neighborhood.

 

At a news conference before the discovery of a second device, Mayor Bill de Blasio said the explosion injured at least 29 people. He said the blast was intentional, but there was no specific terrorist threat.  A device believed to be a pressure cooker was subsequently found on West 27th Street, four blocks from the initial blast on West 23rd, according to the New York Police Department. A man attacked an off-duty NYPD officer with a cleaver near Penn Station at the height of the evening rush hour Thursday, wounding the cop in the face before being shot at 18 times by police, officials say.

A suspect possibly wielding a sword and knife is wanted for murdering the nephew of a U.S. senator during a brutal home invasion near Spokane, Washington, police said.

 

Spokane County Sheriff's deputies responded to the home of 35-year-old Bob Tester, the nephew of Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., on Wednesday morning. He was found "severely injured," according to police and court documents, and died at the scene.  Click here for full story

Johnson County’s Deputy Killed by Suspected Drunken Driver

Just hours after celebrating his daughter’s fourth birthday, a Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy with nearly 21 years on the job died in a fiery crash early Sunday when a suspected drunken driver slammed the rear of his patrol car while the officer conducted a traffic stop.

Master Deputy Brandon Collins had pulled over a vehicle about 1:30 a.m. on northbound U.S. 69 near West 143rd Street, according to Darla Jaye, public information officer for the sheriff’s office.  Within minutes of the stop, a pickup truck slammed into the back of the patrol car, engulfing it in flames. Nevada Murder Suspect Escapes

LAS VEGAS, NV- Police video shows a Nevada homicide suspect handcuffed to a table in a police interview room twisting his body to muscle the hinge of handcuffs attaching his right wrist to one of the table's metal bars.

Alonso Perez "torques it to the point, using some of his body weight, that it snaps the hinges," said North Las Vegas Police Chief Alexander Perez, who is not related to the suspect.  Alonso Perez then sits down calmly with his wrist on the metal bar, where the police chief said he remained while a detective entered the room to check on him.  Click here for full story

 

Puerto Rico Officer Killed in Motorcycle Crash

A Puerto Rico police officer died in a motorcycle crash while driving to work early Monday morning.

 Lt. Waldemar Rivera Santiago was en route to the police station when his department motorcycle struck the rear of a truck carrying milk on PR-2 around 3:45 a.m., according to Primera Hora.  The 52-year-old officer was pronounced dead on the scene while the driver of the truck, identified as Rafael Miró Mora, was uninjured.  Rivera-Santiago, who served with the Puerto Rico Police Department for 30 years, is survived by his wife and six children.
