Tom Ferguson
Thomas R. Ferguson served 31 years with the Indiana State Police and has over 23 years of experience in narcotics investigations.
Upon graduating from the Indiana State Police Academy, he spent five years working road patrol in Hamilton County, Indiana. While working in uniform, he was chosen to be a counselor for the Indiana State Police 41st Recruit Academy/50thAnniversary Class.
Thomas was promoted to the undercover detective assigned to work in the Indianapolis area. He investigated street-level crimes involving drugs, prostitution, and murder for hire. He spent 13 years working undercover then was promoted to Sergeant. After six years as squad Sergeant, he was promoted to First Sergeant serving as the assistant commander of the Drug Enforcement Section. Thomas was assigned to the FBI Safe Streets Taskforce in Fort Wayne, IN, as a liaison between the FBI and the Indiana State Police.
As a member of the Indiana Drug Enforcement Association, he was a training instructor for the primary undercover school for four years, classroom instructor for six years, and a representative for IDEA for seven years. He served two terms as president of the association.
Thomas became involved with the Northeast Counterdrug Training Center, Fort Indiantown Gap, PA, and graduated in the 2003 Pennsylvania Top Gun class. Thomas also was an assistant squad leader in the April 2004 Maryland Top Gun class. He coordinated Indiana Top Gun I bringing this high level of training to Indiana. Thomas worked part-time as a Training Coordinator for Alutiiq Corp, Anchorage Alaska, and the Pennsylvania Sheriffs Association responsible for providing training to law enforcement officers and managers on many topics from leadership high-risk investigations and drug Identification.
In April of 2012, Thomas was promoted to Captain of the Investigation Division headquarters as Assistant Commander of Criminal Investigation Division in Indianapolis, IN. Thomas retired August 19, 2013, after a total of 31 years of service.
