As technology changes every six months to a year, law enforcement officers and investigators have to learn to adapt and understand
these technologies being used by criminals. Even with budget restrictions and limited resources for each agency, criminals act without borders by using (Internet-based technologies and often achieve
higher anonymity by studying the techniques and trends being used by law enforcement.
With the defense counselors' and criminals' right to "discovery" and now "e-discovery," there are new case laws established that require investigators to adhere to specific and strict practices with
regards to acquisition, management, and preservation of data. We have to increase our knowledge base and skillsets.
This course expands the knowledge of investigators to understand the position and place of digital forensics in the wake of new and advanced technology being introduced. Many departments have
policies and procedures that have been in place for decades, as crime has its foundational elements based on human behaviors. Law enforcement officers and organizations now need to prepare for the
changing dynamics of investigations. Adapting to technology is essential in investigations.
This course will prepare learners to expand their scope of leads and potential areas of considerations with regards to how new technologies are being used to avoid the detection and identification of
crimes. The instructor, with the assistance of handouts, lecture, and powerpoint slides will assist the students in learning to explain the approach to new technology for investigations; apply a
working knowledge of digital forensics for other related technologies and disciplines; discover where we might be missing critical evidence and data; and review case laws, emerging trends and how
these areas apply to criminal and civil investigations.
This two-day training course will provide officers with an advanced understanding of new and advanced technology. This exploitation can lead to better investigative practices to conduct a thorough
and data-rich investigation for trials and prosecution.
