It has long been known that small percentage of officers are responsible for a disproportionate share of complaints which can affect the reputation of an entire agency. Many police agencies began to establish tracking systems that identify patterns of behavior. This problem-solving approach can identify trends and patterns of behavior which require a more demanding response. An early intervention system is essentially to identify an officer who is likely to engage in potentially damaging behavior before it occurs. However, simple implementation alone is not fully effective. An early intervention system must function in a manner which is perceived as fair and effective by all involved.Several topics and risk factor will be discussed during this class. Students will participate in both classroom lecture and hands on “in box” scenarios.
